East Region Central League
Bankfoot 0 - 6 Oakley United, 29th August 2009

Oakley travelled to Perthshire full of hope for the forthcoming season back in the East
Region Central League. Anyone in doubt of Oakley credentials only had to wait 5 minutes
before Lee Celantano opened his account for the season. After good play by the ever
improving Bannatyne, young 'Celly' fired into the bottom of the net past the hapless
Bankfoot stopper.

Six minutes later Oakley doubled their lead. Again, Celantano was the scorer making the
most out of a Jim Weir (ex Hearts & St.Johnstone) mistake. By this time Oakley were
exerting all the pressure and on 17 minutes big Craig Lumsden rose high above the
Bankfoot defence to power the ball into the Bankfoot goal.

Big John Sinclair made it 4 on the half hour again making the most of Bankfoot's inability to
clear their lines. The big man was again playing well on his return from injury looking very
comfortable at the back and composed coming forward. Nevertheless, he might count
himself lucky not to have seen red. His first booking was perhaps what one might term a
good foul...as he stopped the defender at pace following an errant pass from midfield.
Minutes later he brought down the impressive Bankfoot no.11 on the edge of the box.
However, its not often a referee does Oakley a good turn so we will move swiftly on!

On 43 minutes, Celantano showed again that he is going to score many goals this season.
After a poor clearance he picked the ball up on the edge of the box and rifled the half
volley into the bottom of the net.

HT Bankfoot 0 - 5 Oakley United

Steve Kay decided to make one change at Half time. Off came Sinclair who was replaced by
Stuart Innes. Hutton then moved back into defence.

Bankfoot, obviously received a bollocking at the interval and came out in the second half
with renewed vigor. Their winger was causing Oakley several problems down the left wing.
In fact the game became a little bit scrappy, not helped by the fact that the pitch was now
beginning to cut up severely. Nevertheless, Bankfoot for all their early half pressure only
really created a couple of chances. On the one occasion they did manage to beat Oakley
keeper Parkyn, the referee judged the Bankfoot striker to have punched the ball into the
net and booked him accordingly.

'Celly' completed a good afternoon for both Oakley and for himself on 80 minutes. After a
great through ball he burst into the box, checked by onto his left foot beating two
defenders before firing the ball into the bottom left corner.

Verdict
Whilst Oakley will no doubt player better teams this year, it was a great start to the league
campaign and highlight of intent for the rest of the season. In truth they could have hit
double figures, but 3 points are 3 points.

ACA League Cup Group Stage
Crossgates Primrose 1 - 3 Oakley United, 15th August 2009

On what can only be described as a typical autumnal day Oakley fielded possibly their
strongest  11 with the notable exception of midfielder Chris Hughes. Despite heavy
overnight rain the surface at Humbug Park suited Oakley's passing style perfectly.

The first half started brightly for the visitors with Oakley controlling the midfield with ease.
Early chances fell to Lee Celantano and Gavin Gray bringing out the best in the young
Crossgates stopper. However visiting fans only had to wait 25 minutes for the opener.
After a fine passing move, Lee Celantano was brought down in the penalty area and the
young female official had no hesitation in pointing to the spot. Up stepped big Gavin Gray
to make it 1-0. Five minutes later Oakley doubled their lead. Again Celantano  was the
instigator firing a wicked driven shot at the Crossgates keeper. The ball rebounded to
Kevin Masson, who still with everything to do blasted the ball into the top corner.

Oakley by this time were playing some attractive football. Big Johny Sinclair in particular
looked calm and assured at the back, whilst Kevin Masson and Ryan Blackadder
orchistrated everything through the middle. Unfortunately on 42 minutes Peter 'Frank' Fyfe
pulled up on the wing with what looked like a hamstring injury and was replaced by Colin
'Coco' Mullen.

HT Crossgates Primrose 0 - 2 Oakley United

Crossgates  started the second half in a much improved fashion. Oakley appeared to have
taken their foot off the pedal and the moves that were coming off in the first period began
to break down. Nevertheless Oakley did actually score a 3rd goal when a Masson lob in 57
minutes came off the keepers hands and was cleared from a foot over the Primrise goal
line. Regardless, the referee missed what was obvious to everyone else and the score
remained 2-0.

Gavin Gray should then have finished off Crossgates. After a Masson shot struck the
underside of the bar the ball landed at the feet of the big striker who only had the keeper
to beat. Amazingly he managed to get the ball tangled in his feet before the young keeper
saved at his near post. Oakley then had a two stonewall penalty claims denied.

As always seems to happen when you don't kill off the opposition they inevitably come
back at you and Crossgates pulled one back just after the hour mark. Oakley responed well
though. After a beautifully flighted corner by Blackadder, Sinclair rose above the
Crossgates defence to power a header towards the top corner. Thankfully for Crossgates,
this time they managed to clear the ball off the line. Thereafter followed a couples of
speculative efforts from substitute Stuart Innes and Ryan Blackadder respectively.

The final goal came close to the end. Again the ball was played through from the back and
Colin Mullen controlled the ball, rounded the keeper and fired into the empty net.

Verdict
Great first half display from Oakley deserving of 2-0 lead. Switched off a little in second
half and perhaps need to be a little sharper in front of goal. Great displays by Sinclair,
Masson, Blackadder and Lumsden.

                9. Celantano     8. Gray
